Humber continues to pioneer use of new digital technology

A digital health app that helps adults with learning disabilities to communicate has had its trial with Humber NHS Foundation Trust extended by six months due to ‘outstanding feedback from users and healthcare professionals’.

Developed by London-based software firm Maldaba Ltd, My Health Guide is an application for iPad and Android tablet devices that allows adults living with a learning disability to easily communicate their health needs and life experiences with carers, parents, doctors and nurses using interactive ‘boxes’.

Trish Bailey of Humber NHS Foundation Trust said: “We are beginning to see the benefits to our patients who are using the APP. More time is needed to enable the principles of using technology to be shared wider across our local health and social care services .We have therefore decided to extend the original six month trial to the end of March 2017.

“The feedback from people who use our services, carers and healthcare professionals over the past six months has been outstanding and we envisage this technology becoming a key aspect of how Humber NHS Foundation Trust engages with adults with learning disabilities in the future,” added Trish.

Lorenzo Gordon, co-founder and MD of Maldaba Ltd, commented: “Reaction to the My Health Guide application has been very encouraging with the technology allowing for much clearer communication.

“The enthusiasm of the 200 app users involved in the trial has been very gratifying.

“We are delighted that the trial has been extended and are in talks with a number of other NHS trusts to develop similar initiatives with My Health Guide,” added Lorenzo.
